A mind, not a tic

Chapter eleven failed with a strict count of eight reliability moves against a cap of three, and cleared when the count came back to exactly three.

· principles 5, 7 of twelve

What it shows

Every chapter passed on voice; the count is where the book kept failing. Chapter eleven stated the same self-suspecting irresolution at the crest of every movement, and the critic counted eight where the cap allowed three, then ruled the root cause structural rather than a snip. The re-grade is the line the case study quotes: the mannerism is gone, and the chapter reads as a mind. The last block is the verdict on chapter thirteen, where the same reflex returned and was rationed again.

The principles are numbered on the method page. Cuts in the excerpts below are marked with an ellipsis in brackets; the three kinds of cut are stated on the record’s front page.

critic-notes / act2-ch11 · FAIL on the count
| **D6 — Clean of tells** | 2 → **FAIL on count budget** | **Zero blacklist phrase hits** (full literal sweep below; the lone "the weight of" at 83 is a concrete contrast, cleared). Hedging within budget (one "perhaps," 77, doing real work). Zero charged default-music tricolons. No theme named aloud. BUT the **reliability-move count is at minimum 6, and by a strict count 8 — catastrophically OVER the cap of 3** (independently recounted and quoted below). This is the Ch-5/Ch-10 failure mode at structural scale: the chapter's engine *is* the repeated explicit reliability move, and the doubt has tipped wholly from a mind into a mannerism. A count-cap over budget is a fail per the rubric; this is the largest such breach the book has produced. D6 cannot score ≥ 4. **This is the chapter's REVISE condition, and it is not surgical — it is structural.** |

**The most generous possible recount still fails decisively.** Even if one rules ¶51, ¶53, and ¶55 as folded into the standing […] retrospective posture / narrative-housekeeping (the most lenient adjudication the prior notes permit), the chapter *still* carries **five** hard, distinct, charged "I could not tell / I have never been able to decide / I knew it and fed it anyway" beats (45, 75, 79, 91, 93) — each a §2.3 self-suspecting connection, each landing the close of a movement, each explicitly irresolute. **Five is the floor; eight is the strict count. The cap is three.** The doubt no longer reads as a mind; it reads as a tic the chapter cannot stop performing. This is the precise reflex the budget exists to ration, at the largest scale the book has yet produced.

**Root cause (for the writer):** the breach is not a few removable sentences. It is the chapter's architecture — four conversations/scenes that each restate the same irresolution. The fix is not a snip; it is to let the *structure* carry the doubt (which it already does superbly — the overlap, the un-run test, the unfiled bulletin, the un-told tally) and to *delete the stated irresolution at the crest of all but ONE movement*, letting the other three movements close on the concrete (the un-run test; the bulletin left in the tray; Rahmani's note read twenty times) and trust the reader to feel the gap. See fix list.
critic-notes / act2-ch11 · re-graded
**Count = 3, exactly at the cap.** The doubt is now carried structurally — the un-run test (¶75), the
unfiled bulletin (¶95), the un-told tally, the three columns (¶73), the refolded lie (¶81) — with only
three *stated* crests, well-spaced (open / mid / close-adjacent). The mannerism is gone; this reads as
a mind, not a tic. **D6 count budget: CLEARS.**

[…] **The voice is not in question; the discipline is.**
critic-notes / act2-ch13 · FAIL
**Most-lenient recount adjudicated — still a decisive fail.** Even ruling the most generous calls — folding ¶105 into ¶91 (same withheld-leaf confession, one scene) and ¶133 into ¶81 (same cannot-choose, restated) as standing-posture restatements, and treating the ¶65 disproof as a *mundane assertion* (not counted, per Ch-11 ¶51 / Ch-12 ¶80 precedent) — the floor is **five distinct charged beats: ¶57, ¶59, ¶75, ¶81, ¶91 (with ¶125 a sixth).** Five is the floor; eight is the strict count. **The cap is three.** The doubt has tipped from a mind into the chapter's mannerism — exactly the reflex the budget exists to ration, at the Ch-11 architectural scale.
