The juries revert four of twelve

The panel’s fixes went to twelve per-chapter blind juries; eight passed and four were sent back. The fresh spine audit still scored the closings six of ten.

· principles 8, 11 of twelve

What it shows

The panel’s own fixes were not trusted either. Twelve per-chapter juries gated them; eight passed, four were reverted with the ruling that the narrator’s self-glossing is characterization, and the fresh spine audit reported that the closings still scored six of ten. The remaining repetition was architectural, and the record says so in the same commit that shipped the fixes.

The principles are numbered on the method page. Cuts in the excerpts below are marked with an ellipsis in brackets; the three kinds of cut are stated on the record’s front page.

Panel pass WP1: jury-verified edge dedup + 2 confirmed continuity fixes

Eight chapters carry the surviving edits (every one gated by a blind
per-chapter A/B against the prior version; four further edits were
rejected by their jurors as voice losses and reverted, one repaired
per the juror's split prescription):

- ch28 (P0, STRONG): the hinge line "Not yet... Not until there is a
floor" restored to Luca's own mouth ("I had answered him"), matching
ch22/ch24 and the ledger; the F174 frontmatter gloss carried the same
  misattribution and is corrected.
- ch33 (P0, STRONG): the broken date-habit back-reference re-anchored
to ch31's actual night ("the night I sat at this desk in the dark"),
removing the two-first-nights contradiction under the final image.
- ch15: "He named nothing" twin-frame recast ("Set it down cold...")
and the Rahmani exit re-landed on the knot and the conservation cold
(juror: lands the chapter's governing word).
- ch17: the third negative-catalogue frame recast as the drawn-up
account; breaks the triple "I could not tell...whether" cadence.
- ch09: Rahmani exit re-landed on Okonkwo leaving the Causa column
blank — the silence-about-silence question enacted in the sheet.
- ch27: flatness-credo dedup + father-case retelling compressed to its
  unique content ("borne the completing").
- ch29: envied-road twin cut ("I have envied that man. I am not him.");
the withholding confession restored per the juror.
- ch21: "could not fault a word of it" (third-use variation).

Reverted per jury: ch01 draught simile, ch11 "It is in this room",
ch24 clerk's-way/gears trims, ch25 credo/negative-definition trims —
the jurors ruled the narrator's self-glossing is characterization.

Spine re-audit (fresh auditor): closings still 6/10 — the residual
repetition is architectural (exit choreography, threshold loop),
i.e. WP3 territory; report updated in .archive/revision/.

panel report · WP1 execution record
## WP1 execution record (2026-07-04, commit e82fb04)

**Gates run:** 12 blind per-chapter A/B juries (HEAD vs edited, labels randomized) + 1 fresh spine re-audit.

**Jury outcomes:** 8 chapters' edits ACCEPTED (ch09, ch15, ch17, ch21, ch27, ch28 STRONG, ch29 partial, ch33 STRONG — both P0 canon fixes confirmed on consistency AND craft); 4 REJECTED and reverted (ch01, ch11, ch24, ch25 — jurors ruled the narrator's self-glossing and first-person warrants are characterization, not padding); ch29 split per juror (envied-road cut kept; withholding confession restored).

**Standing lesson (now twice demonstrated):** figure-level dedup of the narrator's self-referential tissue ("I have it still", "the clerk's way", the sat-across-from-liars warrant) loses blind A/B; edge re-landings that put the device's work into chapter-native furniture (the Causa blank, the conservation cold, the drawn-up account) win it.

**Spine re-audit:** openings 7, closings 6, escalation 7 (up from 6), frame 6. Acceptance bar (closings ≥8, no device >2 unvaried uses) NOT met. The auditor recognizes the re-landed instances as improved but charges the underlying CHOREOGRAPHY: the Rahmani-exit family (7 edges), the negative-catalogue move (5 edges), the Act-IV threshold loop (5 of 6 edges), the notarial opening (9 chapters), deferral machinery (6 announcements + ~12 "two years at this desk" stamps). Its contrast finding: the window motif (ch1→5→26→34) and date-ahead motif (ch31→33→34) re-land with variation every time — "prize-caliber" — proving the cure is variation at the BEAT level, not the phrase level.

**Remaining to decision (WP2/WP3):** ch33 iteration compression (Act V reader + original B2 fix-list both prescribe; unexecuted); ch17 architecture (open away from ch16's close-restatement; cut one twin "name the shot" speech); ch25 close differentiated from ch24's ("hour"/"day" minus-one-noun twin); 2-3 of the 7 Rahmani exits consolidated; deferral retirement (spare ch2 + ch33). NOTE the structural tension now on record: the whole-book auditor prescribes cuts that per-chapter juries have historically restored; any WP3 execution must re-land, never amputate, and expect jury pushback. An authored alternative worth the author's consideration: the narrator — a man who polices patterns — could be allowed to NOTICE, once, late, that he closes his chapters on a beat of his own; that would convert the residual schedule into theme, at the cost of one new composed beat.

chapter 33 · revision log · the authored move
- **Authored move — jury verdict (2026-07-04):** two independent blind jurors (one adversarial, primed against metafictional additions) both returned STRONG for the version WITH the section. Juror A: "the book's deepest move, executed, not gestured at"; Juror B (the darlings-cutter): "Version 2's ending is good; Version 1's ending is *proven*" — the section "changes category rather than merely repeating" the chapter's maneuver, and "a man has the one account of himself, and nothing to count it against" called the chapter's best line.
